Drupefruit LLC (“Drupefruit,” “we,” “us”), a California limited liability company, operates HoundSonar™ at houndsonar.com. HoundSonar is a brand of Drupefruit LLC. This policy describes what we collect, what we deliberately do not, and what we do with the rest.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
Your email address, and the date you accepted these terms. That is the whole account. We do not ask for your name, your address, or your phone number.
Receipts and photographs
When you photograph a receipt, the image is sent to our AI provider to be transcribed, and the transcription is stored: the purchase date, warehouse name and number, transaction number, line items and their prices, discounts, subtotal, tax and total. The photograph itself is not stored. It is read and discarded.
We also store the number of tokens each read consumed, which is a measure of cost and says nothing about you or what you bought.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a push subscription — an address your device's push service will accept messages at, and the keys needed to encrypt them. We store that so we can tell you when something you bought drops in price.
Payment information
Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We record only whether your subscription is active and when it renews.
Usage
Ordinary server logs, and the counts we need to enforce scan limits. We do not run third-party analytics, advertising pixels, or session recording of any kind.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
Your Costco membership number. It is printed on every receipt. The AI reader is instructed to skip it, and it is stripped again before anything is written down.
Your card's last four digits, and any authorisation or approval code. Same receipt, same treatment.
Your Costco password. We never ask you to connect a Costco account, because we never want to hold a credential that also protects your saved payment method. A photograph is all we need, and there is nothing for you to revoke if you leave.
These are not only promises. They are enforced in the code that writes to our database, after the instruction to the AI reader — a request is not a guarantee, so we filter as well as ask. We cannot disclose or lose what we never stored.
3. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, for advertising or for any other purpose.
- We do not send marketing blasts. You get the notifications you asked for and messages about your own account, and nothing else.
- We do not use your receipts or photographs to train general-purpose AI models.
- We do not share your data with Costco, and Costco does not share anything with us.
4. How We Use Your Information
To read your receipts; to watch what you bought against current promotions for the 30 days Costco's price-adjustment policy allows; to tell you when something drops; to run your account and subscription; and to prevent abuse of the free tier.
5. Price Sightings
When a receipt shows an item was discounted at the register, that is a fact about a price, not about you. We record it and combine it with the same sighting from other members.
The aggregate carries no person: no account identifier, no warehouse, no date of any individual trip — only the item, the amount, and how many people saw it. Nothing is shown to anyone until several separate members have seen the same discount on the same item, and it is never presented as money you are owed. It is information about what is currently cheap.
6. Information Sharing
We share data only with the providers that make the service work: our AI provider (receipt images, at the moment of reading), our hosting and database providers, our push delivery services, and Stripe for payment. We also disclose information if the law requires it, and in a merger or sale of assets your information may transfer, subject to this policy.
7. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to member data is restricted at the database level so one member's rows cannot be read by another. Administrative access is limited and audited.
8. Data Retention
Receipts and claims stay until you delete them or close your account. When you close your account, your receipts, claims, notification subscriptions and profile are deleted.
Two things survive, deliberately: an anonymous one-way fingerprint of each receipt already scanned, so the same receipt cannot be submitted twice by anyone — it identifies a receipt, not a person, and cannot be reversed into one; and price sightings already folded into the aggregate, which by then carry nothing that points back to you.
9. Your Rights and Choices
You can download your receipt history as a spreadsheet at any time, from the account menu. You can delete your account from the same place, and it is immediate. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your browser.
For a complete copy of everything we hold about you beyond receipt history, or to correct or object to what we hold, write to privacy@houndsonar.com — California residents in particular have this right under the CCPA, and we will honor a request from anyone regardless of where they live.
10. Children
HoundSonar is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. A Costco membership is required to use the service in any case.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the version at the top and tell you in the app before the change takes effect for you.
